Till a' the seas gang dry

A bit of a plug for a florist that I was particularly impressed with.

Flowers feature in a very major way in the life of the Sims...my mom constantly has the house filled with fresh flowers and to me...even now...a house is not a home if it doesn't have flowers around. I don't have much occasion or opportunity to procure flowers here in Melbourne for budgetary reasons and otherwise...but when the need does arise...I feel its always important, like how most things often are, to have it done properly. Hence a good florist is crucial.

I used to go to White Moss down on Flinders Lane between Swanston and Elizabeth Streets but I feel in love with the brilliance of Pollon's window displays. So when the time came for me thank someone by way of a bouquet, I decided to give them a shot and I was not disappointed at all. Their service is simply top notch. For example...they deliberately do not heat their store (and their work areas) so as to preserve the flowers and prevent them from wilting before the ultimate recipient of said flowers have had a chance to truly enjoy them (the flowers bud when only when in a warm clime...but the warm dry heated environments of homes also mean they wilt even faster if they're introduced in full-bloom). Very impressive. Pollon's located on Flinders Lane between Swanston and Russell Street.

On hindsight, I probably should've spent less on the bouquet as it resulted in being nearly coming to most of my upper body length...which wasn't so much an issue product wise but rather because of the looks you get when you walk around the city carrying a ginormous bouquet. Another thing about flowers is that I'm always reminded of that old Robert Burns poem (he of the brilliant Address to A Haggis)...A red, red rose...it is simply one of the most beautiful love poems I've come across and I even have the traditional acappella arrangement sung by the King's Singer for it =).

A Red, Red Rose by Robert Burns

O, my luve's like a red, red rose,
That's newly sprung in June.
O, my luve's like the melodie,
That's sweetly play'd in tune.

As fair art thou, my bonie lass,
So deep in luve am I,
And I will luve thee still, my Dear,
Till a' the seas gang dry.

Till a' the seas gang dry, my Dear,
And the rocks melt wi' the sun!
O I will luve thee still, my Dear,
While the sands o' life shall run.

And fare thee weel, my only Luve,
And fare thee weel a while!
And I will come again, my Luve,
Tho' it were ten thousand mile!

The standard english translation is as follows:

O, my love is like a red, red rose,
That is newly sprung in June.
O, my love is like the melody,
That is sweetly played in tune.

As fair are you, my lovely lass,
So deep in love am I,
And I will love you still, my Dear,
Till all the seas go dry.

Till all the seas go dry, my Dear,
And the rocks melt with the sun!
O I will love you still, my Dear,
While the sands of life shall run.

And fare you well, my only Love,
And fare you well a while!
And I will come again, my Love,
Although it were ten thousand mile!

Hmm I couldn't find any youtube video for it...so here's a couple of other videos of the King's Singers in action:
